Here are some photos from my recent sailing trip.
While heading north on Puget Sound to enter the Strait of Juan de Fuca, we were passed by what appeared to be a Trident nuclear missile submarine. This photo is somewhat grainy, because it was taken at a great distance. The submarine was escorted by a Coast Guard cutter that was being very agressive in maintaining distance. I did my best to maintain a distance greater than 1 kilometer. Even at that range the Coast Guard cutter made numerous sharp turns and accelerations in our direction. No radio contact though. I thought the cutter looked like a mother bear nervously guarding her cub.
Ahhhh! Mid-July in Washington State. Note the insulated flannel shirt; I was still cold.
